This djembe is solid
and it sounds great. Check out the sounds below. It
is made of iroko wood and is light at 16.5 lbs. The
bass has great resonance. It is very easy to make this
djembe sing.
The head is a medium African goatskin
from Guinea and has been re-headed by me. It has been
tuned and is ready to play. The playable surface of
the head is smooth and has no stubbles from goathair.
The loops are green 5mm polyester/ kevlar
core rope from African Rhythm Traders and the verticals
have been replaced with 5mm low stretch rope from Drumskull
Drums, These guys are the best in the business and they
know their materials. The rope is a continuous piece,
not several ropes tied together to make one piece. The
rope is superior to what you may get from less expensive
drums that have not been reworked.
This drum is totally reworked as such:
Strip drum of original palm oil finish.
Three coats of boiled linseed oil. Coated and buffed
with wax.
Coat bearing edge with wax.
Wrap rings with purple cotton fabric.
New rope for loops and verticals
Reheaded with medium African goatskin from Guinea. I
let the head dry for 4 days before pulling tension.
The head is a good 1 inche below the bearing edge so
that the hands don't hit the rings.
